Why Are Comments Moderated?
I welcome comments, challenges, and dialogue of all stripes. Unfortunately, there are some relatively clever spam-bots out there that find WordPress blogs like mine and post garbage into the comments, so I have to moderate the comments to make sure that what’s added are actually comments and not advertisements for viagra. I’ve little interest in censoring the contributions of real people, so please don’t hesitate to jump in — I’m just making sure the pool you’re jumping into isn’t full of crap.
It works like this: comments to the blog must be (a) approved by myself before they appear or (b) posted by somebody who’s already had a comment approved. I check comments in the queue pretty often, so there shouldn’t be too much of a lag for first-time commentators. I look forward to talking with you!
Addendum: I’ve just installed a plug-in called Gatekeeper that asks you a dumb-ass question like “What color is an orange?” along with your comment. I’m hoping that this will reduce the 20-50 spam comments I have to take out of the moderation queue every day, and I hope it isn’t an annoying one-more-step for y’all to take.
